YAAMANGA (AROUND HERE) EDUCATION KIT

This education resource has been designed to support teachers in planning their visit to Yaamanga (around here), a permanent exhibition at Yarrila Arts and Museum (YAM). The guide provides key insights, historical context, and curriculum links across history, geography, and visual arts for both primary and secondary students.

Yaamanga (around here) explores the history and identity of the Coffs Coast through themes of place, community, and belonging, with Gumbaynggirr culture at its heart. Featuring over 500 historical artefacts, photographs, artworks, and digital media from YAM’s collection, the exhibition is divided into five core areas: Sing Your Country, People and Place, Harbour, Headlands and Hinterland, Moments in Time, and Collection Features. Interactive elements such as a bilingual digital touch table and cinematic storytelling help students engage with the region’s past and present.

The exhibition guide aims to foster meaningful and educational museum experiences that extend beyond the gallery visit. This resource also includes activities that encourage deeper exploration of the exhibition back in the classroom, using resources from the Coffs Collections website.
