John Witzig is a photographer, writer, editor and designer based in the Mid North Coast and contributed his first piece to Surfing World in 1963. From 1967 to 1969, he served as the editor of Surf International and co-founded Tracks magazine with Albe Falzon and David Elfick in 1970. Witzig has also contributed to several anthologies on surfing, such as Surfer Magazine: 50 Years, and The Best of Surfer Magazine. His iconic photographs helped define Australia’s surf narrative and continue to inspire new photographers with their authenticity and intimate observations.
Duncan Macfarlane is a surf photographer based in Coffs Harbour and has been working for Billabong for the last decade. Duncan offers a global, contemporary view of surfing. Beyond his commercial work, he creates one-off wax transfers that reflect his personal artistic practice and visual diaries documenting his trips around the world. In the past fortnight, Duncan has been awarded first place in the People & Nature category of the 2024 Oceania Photo Contest for his work Salmon Surfer.
